This print showcases the artwork titled "Conversion Saint Paul" by Benozzo Gozzoli and Di Lese Sandro. Created in Florence around 1460s, this tempera on wood masterpiece measures approximately 15 5/8 x 18 inches (397 x 457 cm). Originally commissioned as panels for the altarpiece of the Alessandri family, it was an update to a painting done almost 150 years earlier. The scene depicted in this artwork takes place at the Church of San Pier Maggiore. It portrays a miraculous event from ancient times when Saint Paul, a fifth-century bishop, resurrects a dead child right in front of a square filled with astonished onlookers. In another part of the painting, we witness magician Simon Magus crashing to the ground as Emperor Nero watches in amazement while Peter commands demons that are suspended midair. Adding further intrigue to this piece is an apparition of Christ appearing before Totila, King of the Goths. The king humbly seeks his blessing during this encounter. The intricate details and vibrant colors bring these historical events to life.
