EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite "Hen and Chicks Tureen" created by the renowned Chelsea Porcelain Factory in 1755. The factory, located in what is now London, was a prominent ceramic manufactory during the mid-18th century. This particular tureen is an exceptional example of their craftsmanship. The tureen takes the form of a hen surrounded by her adorable chicks, displaying intricate details and delicate glazing. Its condition is remarkably well-preserved, making it even more remarkable. Recently, it has been reunited with its original stand design that was intended to accompany it. Large tureens shaped like animals were highly sought after products from the Chelsea Porcelain Factory, and this piece exemplifies their mastery in creating such unique and decorative ceramics. The charming depiction of a mother hen with her chicks adds an element of playfulness to this ornate piece. Currently housed at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio, USA, this acquisition was made possible through funds provided by J. H. Wade Fund for art purchases.
