Umbria Perugia Spello S. Maria della Rotonda
Umbria Perugia Spello S. Maria della Rotonda, this is my Italy, the italian country of visual history, Located on the outskirts of Spello, this church stands in a state of semi-dilapidation among tall grasses and cypress trees. It was built on a Greek cross plan with an octagonal cupola and attached cloisters. The Renaissance portal 1517 remains shut as the key is now lost. Interior views focus on the octagonal cupola, the three altarpieces, and their frescoes which are all in urgent need of repair. The large main altarpiece acts as a choir screen, and separates one arm of the church from the rest of the interior. Subjects of the altar frescoes by Mezzastris include the Madonna Lactans, the Madonna and Child between Pope Gregory and St. Michael, the Virgin and St. Anne, the Annunciation, the Coronation of the Virgin, and Saints Peter and Michael. Photos 1983. This church is more commonly known as the Chiesa Tonda

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Italy's visual history in all its glory. Located on the outskirts of Spello, Umbria Perugia, stands the magnificent S. Maria della Rotonda church amidst a backdrop of tall grasses and majestic cypress trees. The church, built on a Greek cross plan with an octagonal cupola and attached cloisters, exudes an air of semi-dilapidation. As you gaze upon this image, your eyes are drawn to the Renaissance portal from 1517 that remains firmly shut due to the lost key. Inside, urgent repairs are needed for the octagonal cupola and three altarpieces that take center stage. The large main altarpiece acts as a choir screen, separating one arm of the church from its interior. The altar frescoes by Mezzastris depict various religious scenes including Madonna Lactans, Madonna and Child between Pope Gregory and St. Michael, Virgin and St. Anne, Annunciation, Coronation of the Virgin, Saints Peter and Michael - all begging for restoration. Dating back to 1983 when these photos were taken by Liszt Collection photographer (s), this iconic church is commonly known as Chiesa Tonda among locals and visitors alike. It serves as a testament to Italy's rich cultural heritage but also highlights the need for preservation efforts to ensure future generations can appreciate its beauty firsthand.
