Studio photograph of a young man wearing a three piece suit. He is leaning with his elbow resting on a pillar. On the reverse of the photograph is written Francois Elskens and the date 15.1.1915. Elskens was a patient in the Quex Park VAD Hospital from 1st January 1915 until 22nd April 1915. He was suffering from a shoulder wound. He later worked in the Belgian Munitions Factory at Birtley in Co. Durham. His home was in Hainault, Belgium. The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum. Date: 1915
