This print showcases an exquisite artwork from 1831, depicting the fascia of the thigh. The lateral view offers a front-of-body perspective, with the external fascia of the thigh muscles prominently displayed. Fascia, fibrous connective tissues that envelop muscles and other bodily structures, take center stage in this anatomical masterpiece. Plate 153 from volume 2 of "Traite complet de l'anatomie de l'homme" (1831-1854), an eight-volume anatomy atlas by renowned French physician and anatomist Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849), presents this detailed illustration. The skilled hand behind these intricate drawings belongs to Nicolas-Henri Jacob (1781-1871). Transporting us back to the 19th century, this historical gem provides insight into human musculature and serves as a testament to medical advancements during that era. It captures a moment when knowledge about our bodies was expanding rapidly. The composition focuses on the upper leg region while also encompassing elements such as the pelvis, buttock, groin area, and surrounding connective tissue.
