A Lambeosaurus rears onto its hind legs in response to a threat

In a scene 75 million years ago from whats now Montana, a six ton male Lambeosaurus rears onto its massive hind legs in response to a possible threat, while a female and juvenile Lambeosaurus drink near the rivers edge. Lambeosaurus was a plant-eating dinosaur known for its distinctive hollow cranial crest, which in the best-known species resembled a hatchet. The purpose of the crest is unknown.
Also featured here are Late Cretaceous Period flora including the now extinct tree fern Tempskya and species of flowering Magnolia similar to the Southern Magnolia we know today. Modern birds were just making their appearance, though avian fossils from this period are rare

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back 75 million years ago to witness a remarkable scene from what is now Montana. Standing tall and defiant, a six-ton male Lambeosaurus rears onto its hind legs in response to a potential threat lurking nearby. Meanwhile, a female and juvenile Lambeosaurus find solace at the riverside, quenching their thirst. The Lambeosaurus was an herbivorous dinosaur renowned for its unique hollow cranial crest that resembled a hatchet. Curiously, the purpose of this distinctive feature remains shrouded in mystery. Surrounding these magnificent creatures are remnants of Late Cretaceous Period flora, including the extinct tree fern Tempskya and species of flowering Magnolia reminiscent of today's Southern Magnolia. During this era, modern birds were just beginning to emerge; however, avian fossils from this period are exceedingly rare. The digitally generated image beautifully captures the essence of life during the Mesozoic Era when dinosaurs roamed freely. Immerse yourself in Earth's natural history as you delve into paleontology and paleobotany through this stunning artwork by Walter Myers. Witness the grandeur of these ancient quadrupeds transitioning into bipedal stances amidst marshes, swamps, woods, and forests. This illustration showcases not only the diverse wildlife but also highlights our planet's ever-evolving ecosystem throughout time.
