EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, taken on October 19, 1904, Henry Ford is seen making his triumphant arrival at the prestigious London Hippodrome, bringing to an end his groundbreaking non-stop drive of an astonishing 2,390 miles. The intrepid motorist had embarked on this daring journey from Liverpool, making stops in Brighton, Perth, before finally reaching the London landmark. The engine of Ford's 15 hp Darracq car had been running continuously for an impressive 204 hours, a testament to both Ford's endurance and the reliability of the Darracq vehicle. Upon reaching the Hippodrome, Fred Trussell, the manager of the renowned venue, addressed the eager audience, many of whom were distinguished motorists themselves, providing a brief account of Ford's remarkable achievement. The photograph offers a striking view of the Hippodrome's vast auditorium, filled with an intrigued and excited crowd. The moment of truth had arrived as the engine finally came to a halt, marking the successful completion of Ford's record-breaking journey. The triumphant driver was then presented with a brand new car from H. Rawlinson, a director of the Darracq Company, as a token of recognition for his extraordinary feat. This photograph encapsulates the spirit of adventure and innovation that defined the early days of motoring history, as Ford's non-stop drive pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible and inspired a new generation of motorists.
