Paul CA zanne Leda Swan LA da au cygne c. 1880
Paul Cezanne: Leda and the Swan (Leda au cygne), Paul Cezanne, c. 1880 (possibly later), Oil on canvas, This picture is unusual in Cezannes oeuvre for its specific literary narrative. It represents the mythological story from Ovids Metamorphoses in which Zeus disguises himself as a swan to seduce Leda, the daughter of King Thestius. This is certainly one of the artists more overtly sensual paintings: Leda displays herself for the viewer, her hip curving dramatically, her cheeks flushed, while the swans beak wraps around her wrist as if taking possession of her. Cezanne made two drawings in preparation for the painting, one of which shows the figure holding a champagne flute in her extended hand; the drawing derives directly from the label of a champagne bottle. Overall: 23 1/2 x 29 1/2 in. (59.7 x 74.9 cm)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures Paul Cezanne's masterpiece, "Leda and the Swan" painted around 1880. Unlike many of his other works, this painting tells a specific literary narrative from Ovid's Metamorphoses. The mythological story depicts Zeus transforming into a swan to seduce Leda, the daughter of King Thestius. What makes this artwork stand out is its overt sensuality. Leda unabashedly presents herself to the viewer, her hip curving dramatically and her cheeks flushed with desire. The swan's beak wraps around her wrist possessively, symbolizing its claim over her. Interestingly, Cezanne created two preparatory drawings for this piece. One of them shows Leda holding a champagne flute in her extended hand, which was directly inspired by a champagne bottle label. This detail adds an intriguing touch to the overall composition. Measuring at 23 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches (59.7 x 74.9 cm), this print allows you to appreciate every intricate brushstroke and color choice made by Cezanne himself. It is truly a remarkable addition to any art lover's collection
